• The intro/bass riff sounds exactly like Dawn Patrol (Megadeth song from Rust In Peace) and Rust In Peace was before The Black Album, so this means Metallica took that riff from that. Just listen to Dawn Patrol and then to this song and you'll see what I mean. 
• Indeed it is, I love the intro especially. 
• As a diehard hip-hop head, I can say that seldom does any track from that genre get me as pumped up as this track . . .

The lyrics and song material were inspired by Hetfield's anguish on the circumstances surrounding his mother's death. • He didn't write for his mum. It's his dislike for religion for when he was young, it was forced upon him at an early age and he felt alienated because he felt different to the other kids at school or whatever.
